A IL-33 é uma citocina da família IL-1 (Lomba, 2014), que está presente em processos inflamatórios, como o periodontite, doença caracterizada pela perda de tecidos sustentação, reabsorção do osso alveolar e formação bolsas periodontais (Lima et al., 2008).
